Abu Sayyaf suspects
Latest News - Philippine troops capture 5 Abu Sayyaf suspects, Philippine troops have captured five suspected Muslim militants in a raid on their jungle hideout on a restive southern island.

Army spokesman Maj. Harold Cabunoc says no fighting was reported as troops swept down on the Basilan Island encampment early Wednesday. They followed a tip from a suspect arrested last week who said three Filipino hostages were being held by militants.

Cabunoc says most of the militants were able to evade government troops but five men were captured after being surrounded. There was no sign of the hostages.

He said the five suspected members of the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf group are facing criminal charges. Their identities were not immediately disclosed.
