Iraqi officials: Bombings kill 6 security guards

Latest News - Iraqi officials say two near-simultaneous bombings have targeted a line of security guards waiting to collect their paychecks, killing six of them.

An Interior Ministry official says that first, a suicide bomber detonated himself around 8 a.m. Thursday outside an Iraqi military base near Baqouba, 35 miles (60 kilometers) northeast of Baghdad.

Two minutes later, a car bomb blew up about 30 feet (meters) away.
The dead were members of the Sahwa — a Sunni militia that sided with U.S. forces against al-Qaida in a major turning point of the war.

An official at the Baqouba general hospital says 19 people were wounded, including five soldiers.
Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
