As noted by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on its official website, the 6.1-magnitude earthquake at 11:16:29 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday, at 100 km (62 miles) SW ofDenpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
According to USGS, the powerful earthquake, with some reports said it was 6.0-magnitude, had a depth of 35.1 km (21.8 miles) and local reports said there were dozens injured.
Apparently, at least 50 people were seriously injured and were taken to while an unspecified number of Baliresidents are now being treated for minor injuries.
Among those people reportedly injured are 12 high school students and three teachers when the ceiling of their school collapsed. Some homes were said to have their roof damaged by the quake.
Local radio and TV stations reportedly revealed that wallsand ceilings of some temples have crack, with some tourists seen running out from their hotels, with Bali known to be an attractive resort island.
Indonesia is being known for sitting on the so-called Ring of Fire, where an arc of fault lines are circling around the Pacific Basin that is prone to volcanic eruptions and frequent earthquakes.
